Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta has debunked claims that head coach Simone Inzaghi is on the verge of leaving the club after Saturday’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final, Afrosport reports.
The Nerazzurri lost 5-0 in Munich to condemn them to their second loss in the Champions League final after losing 1-0 to Manchester City in Istanbul two years ago.
It has led to suggestions that Inzaghi will leave the club and head to the lucrative Saudi Pro League to manage Al-Hilal, as he has one year left on his contract at the San Siro. Marotta has, however, stated it is not the case.
“Absolutely not,” he said. “Not only does Inzaghi still have a year left on his contract, not only have we decided to meet with him next week, but in an analysis that needs to be done after these years of work, I believe that almost all the credit for this very positive cycle is due to his performance, his professionalism and his abilities.
“If, as I said last week, he wants to and intends to continue, we are absolutely happy.”
Meanwhile, reflecting on the match. Inzaghi said PSG were fully deserving of the Champions League title.
“I think that PSG deserved to win this match, absolutely. We are very disappointed, clearly. Extremely disappointed, but we had a great campaign in the Champions League, I must say,” he said.
“So, as a coach, I am proud of our campaign. Clearly, we’re not satisfied with the game. We didn’t play well. PSG outplayed us. There was a lot of pressing by them, so they deserve credit. Credit goes to them.
“We did not play the best game, clearly, but I did thank the lads for what they did this season. Unfortunately, we won no silverware, but I’m proud as a coach of what they did.”
5 – Inter are the first team to concede five goals in a UEFA Champions League final; including the European Cup, it hadn’t happened since 1962 (Benfica-Real Madrid 5-3). Stop.#UCLfinal #UCL pic.twitter.com/tbpOJ8bC60

The defeat means Inter Milan ended the 2024-25 season without a trophy after losing the Serie A to Napoli by one point.
