Gyokeres likely to make Arsenal debut against rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that new signing Viktor Gyokeres could make his debut in the pre-season friendly against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old Swedish striker completed a £63.5 million move from Sporting Lisbon over the weekend and was unveiled to fans before the 3-2 win over Newcastle United in Singapore on Sunday.

He could now be set to feature in the first-ever North London derby to be played outside of the United Kingdom.

“Yes, I understand he’s only done today’s session and yesterday, very little,” Arteta told the media ahead of the match.

“We’re going to assess tonight how he is, if the medical staff are happy as well with his condition to participate tomorrow night, it’s a possibility.

“With the rest of the squad, everybody is OK.”

Gyokeres comes off the back of scoring 54 goals for Sporting last term and 97 goals in 102 appearances in two seasons.

He will wear the number 14 shirt previously worn by Arsenal’s all-time top scorer Thierry Henry. He is also the sixth summer signing for the Gunners after Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera, taking their spending to almost £200 million.
