Guehi: Newcastle reportedly prepare opening bid for Crystal Palace captain

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a £40 million bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, Afrosport reports.

The summer transfer window has not gone as the Magpies would have liked, having missed out on several targets such as Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, who both joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively, while Hugo Ekitike joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt.

They could also miss out on Benjamin Sesko, who is reportedly keen to join Manchester United from RB Leipzig.

Newcastle have so far only gotten Anthony Elanga from Manchester United and Aaron Ramsdale (on loan) from Bournemouth as their major signing and are now ready to go after Guehi. The Tyneside outfit have been interested in the Abidjan-born player for some time, and according to The Times, will make a bid of £40 million.

The fee is however believed not to be enough as Crystal Palace’s valuation for the 25-year-old is in the region of £50 million.

Guehi has one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and is also of interest to Chelsea and Liverpool.
