Ghana midfielder Partey denies rape and sexual assault charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has denied charges against him for raping and sexually assaulting three women, Afrosport reports.

Partey pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault after making an appearance at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday.

The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022, when the 32-year-old Ghanaian played for Premier League giants Arsenal and was charged four days after leaving the North London club following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

Partey joined Villareal on a free transfer and has featured in every single game for the Spanish La Liga side, including Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

He has been granted conditional bail until his trial commences on November 2, 2026.

The bail condition does not prevent him from playing football, however he must inform police 24 hours ahead of any international travel and must not be in contact with any of the women he has been charged against.
