Fresh injury blow for Juventus as Bremer faces knee surgery

Juventus defender Gleison Bremer is set to undergo surgery after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee, the Serie A club confirmed on Monday.

The 28-year-old, who missed much of last season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, was diagnosed with the fresh setback during tests in Lyon earlier in the day.

Juventus said Bremer will have a selective arthroscopic meniscectomy in the coming hours. A club statement read: “This morning in Lyon, Gleison Bremer underwent a medical consultation with Dr. Sonnery-Cottet, who diagnosed him with a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. In the next few hours the player will undergo selective arthroscopic meniscectomy.”

Bremer last played for the Bianconeri in a 1-1 draw with Atalanta on 27 September, and was replaced by Juan Cabal having being forced off in the 76th at the Allianz Stadium.

Report suggest the Brazilian, who has made five appearances this season, could be sidelined for around a month, ruling him out of Sunday’s Serie A clash with Como.

The injury adds to coach Igor Tudor’s defensive concerns, with Cabal also sidelined after sustaining a thigh injury during Juve’s recent 2-2 Champions League draw at Villarreal.

Juventus currently sit fifth in Serie A with 12 points, having drawn their last five matches across all competitions.
