Barcelona manager Hansi Flick will be absent from the touchline for the club’s first Champions League match of the new season after receiving a sanction from UEFA, Afrosport reports.
The European governing body’s disciplinary committee has given the 60-year-old a one-match ban for misconduct.
The German coach has also been fined €20,000 following his behaviour during last season’s semi-final second leg against Inter Milan at San Siro in May, which Barcelona lost 4–3 on the night and 7–6 on aggregate.
Flick publicly criticised the officiating after the match, claiming several key decisions went against his side. Assistant manager Marcus Sorg has been handed the same punishment.
Flick was appointed as Barcelona manager last summer and led the team to a domestic treble in his first season, winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Meanwhile, forwards Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have each been fined €5,000 for “failing to comply with the instructions of the Doping Control Officer” and for “not reporting immediately to the Doping Control Station” during the same game.
Barcelona as a club also received financial sanctions following disruptive fan behaviour. The five-time European champions were fined €5,250 for the throwing of objects and €2,500 for the lighting of fireworks the match.
The league phase draw for the Champions League will take place on 28 August at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
The opening round of fixtures is scheduled for 16–18 September, with the final set for 30 May 2026 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
