WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup: Nigeria’s Flamingos beaten on penalties by Ghana in final

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has named a 21-player squad for Nigeria’s campaign at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, Afrosport reports.

The team includes midfielder Shakirat Moshood, goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu, defender Jumai Adebayo, and forward Queen Joseph, alongside several returning players from the 2022 bronze-winning side.

The Flamingos arrived in Casablanca on Wednesday for the final phase of preparations ahead of the tournament, which runs from 17 October to 8 November.

Olowookere, who guided Nigeria to third place in India three years ago, believes his new squad has what it takes to go even further this time.

Also named in the team are goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface, defenders Azeezat Oduntan and Christiana Sunday, midfielders Muinat Rotimi and Zainab Raji, as well as forwards Chisom Nwachukwu and Mariam Yahaya.

Nigeria are drawn in Group D alongside Canada, France, and Samoa. They open their campaign against Canada on Sunday, 19 October, followed by a clash with France three days later. The team will round off the group stage against Samoa on 25 October.
