Real Madrid recorded a narrow 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund with 10 men at MetLife Stadium on Saturday to reach the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals, Afrosport reports.
Los Blancos got past Italian giants Juventus in the round of 16 and were 2-0 up against Dortmund in the opening 20 minutes of the quarter-finals through goals from Gonzalo Garcia, his fourth of the tournament, and Fran Garcia, off an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The game remained 2-0 in favour of Xabi Alonso’s side until things almost turned on its head towards the conclusion of the game when Maximilian Beier pulled one back for Dortmund in the 93rd minute.
Substitute Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal of the tournament almost immediately with an acrobatic volley and what followed was a red card to new Madrid signing and defender Dean Huijsen for bringing down Serhou Guirassy in the box.
The Guinea forward had the responsibility of taking the resultant spot kick which he duely converted.
