Fluminense recorded a big result as they defeated Inter Milan 2-0 on Monday in Charlotte to reach the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals, Afrosport reports.
The Rio de Janeiro giants were ahead in the round of 16 tie at the Bank of America Stadium just two minutes in after Jhon Arias’ cross on the right flank found it’s way for German Cano to head home.
Inter Milan tried to find a leveller but resolute defending from the Fluminense backline and shot stopping from 44-year-old goalkeeper Fabio denied the Italian giants for much of the contest.
Fluminense put the game beyond doubt in the third minute of added time as substitute Hercules exploited space opened up by the Inter defence to stir the ball past Yann Sommer.
