FA review alleged Mejbri spitting incident in Burnley win

The Football Association are reviewing the incident a spitting involving Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, Afrosport reports.

The Tunisia international came on in the 83rd minute of Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over fellow newly-promoted side Leeds United at Turf Moor.

Allegations emerged after the game claiming that the 22-year-old had spat on a Leeds United fan. Lancashire Police have since opened an investigation and are establishing the facts around the complaint.

Under IFAB Laws of the Game, spitting is classified as violent conduct and Mejbri could face up to a three-game suspension.

Burnley have acknowledged the incident and reiterated that it isworking with the police to establish the exact details.

Mejbri joined the Clarets from Manchester United last summer and played 37 times in the EFL Championship as they finished second behind Leeds United.

He has featured in all but one Premier League game this season with Burnley sitting in 17th place, two points from the relegation zone.
