Oscar Piastri extended his lead over Lando Norris in the Formula 1 world championship after winning his sixth race of the season at Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix, Afrosport reports.
The race at Spa-Francorchamps started under wet conditions and Piastri overtook Norris on the first lap. The Australian never looked back even as track conditions became drier and Norris mounted a late challenge on the more durable hard tyre.
Piastri ultimately held firm to finish 3.4 seconds clear of his teammate and extend his championship lead to 16 points.
Charles Leclerc took his fifth podium of the season in the Ferrari with third place after keeping away reigning Max Verstappen, who is now 81 points behind in the championship lead.
George Russell was fifth in the Mercedes ahead of William’s Alex Albon while seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton drove an incredible race from a pitlane start in 18th to finish seventh and win the Driver of the Day award.
Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly completed the top 10 and points finish.
