Nuno Espirito Santo has acknowledged there is a lot of work ahead to improve his new team West Ham United after their 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Monday night, Afrosport reports.
The Hammers went behind to a Michael Keane goal in the first half before Jarrod Bowen levelled in the 65th minute.
Espirito Santo reflecting on the game, still saw some positives.
“[There were some] good things and some not so good things, but a lot of things that we have to work on,” the Sao Tome and Principe-born tactician told the club website.
“But like I said, the message was simple: ‘Let’s compete, every ball is important. Let’s be pragmatic when we have to be pragmatic and let’s take advantage of what we have up front’, but the work-rate overall of the team was good.”
Meanwhile, goalscorer, Bowen, said of what Espirito Santo demands from the players: “I’ve been so impressed with him (Nuno) so far, with the way he manages himself and what he wants and demands from the team. I think we’ve all bought into that, and I think the performance tonight was a credit to him.
“We’ve played against him many times in the Premier League [when he’s been in charge at Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers], and we’re all excited to work with him.
“Everyone’s seen what he did at Forest last year, pushing for the Champions League, and getting into the Europa League. It’s not long ago that we played him, and now he’s our gaffer, so after tonight I think we’re even more excited for the future in front of us.”
