DR Congo forward Wissa informs Brentford about desire to leave the club

Kyle Walker thanks Man City after completing AC Milan loan move

Yoane Wissa has reportedly informed Brentford about his desire to leave the club amid uncertainty over his future, Afrosport reports.

The DR Congo forward has been a key cog in the Bees’ attack since their promotion from the Championship in 2021, scoring 45 Premier League goals and providing 13 assists, including 19 strikes last term.

His future at the Gtech Community Stadium has however come under the spotlight after long-time head coach Thomas Frank left for Tottenham Hotspur.

Other players who have formed part of Brentford’s stability in the English top flight, such as Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken, have also departed.

Wissa was linked with a move to Spurs, but those interests have cooled down, with Newcastle United, who have had a bid rejected, the frontrunner for his signature.

The Magpies are looking for a replacement as top marksman Alexander Isak is also seeking a move away from St. James’ Park.

The Tyneside outfit have had targets like Hugo Ekitike join Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt, while Manchester United are reportedly in the front seat to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Wissa is currently not part of Brentford’s pre-season squad and is training alone away from the first team.
