Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of England youth international Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea on a five-year contract, Afrosport reports.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder impressed during a loan spell with the Bundesliga side in the second half of last season.
Dortmund have now secured his permanent transfer in a deal that could rise to around £24 million.
Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 for £20 million and made 32 appearances for the Blues.
His sale is part of a broader summer clear-out at Stamford Bridge, which has so far generated over £270 million in player sales, almost offsetting the club’s £277 million spend on new signings.
UEFA recently informed Chelsea that they must post a positive transfer balance this window in order to register new players for the upcoming Champions League season.
This follows a £26.7 million fine for breaching UEFA’s financial rules, including exceeding the recommended squad cost ratio, with player wages accounting for more than 80% of club income.
Several other Chelsea players could still leave before the transfer window closes on Monday, including Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique George, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell.
