Yoane Wissa has completed a £55 million deadline-day move to Newcastle United from Brentford, Afrosport reports.
The Magpies will pay an initial £50m plus a further £5m in performance-related add-ons for the DR Congo international, who has signed a four-year contract until 2029 at St James’ Park.
The 28-year-old finally secured his desired move after Brentford rejected two earlier bids from Newcastle this summer. He left the Bees’ pre-season training camp in Portugal to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy and has since been away from the squad to push through a transfer.
Wissa also made his stance clear on social media, removing every Brentford-related post on his Instagram before publicly urging the club to “keep their word” and accusing them of “unduly standing in his way” of a switch to Tyneside.
“I’m really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League,” Wissa said.
“I’m very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt. I’ve got dreams, I’ve got faith and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can’t wait to get started.”

Wissa joined Brentford from French side Lorient in August 2021 and leaves having scored 49 goals in 149 appearances, including 19 in the Premier League last season – striking up a prolific partnership with Bryan Mbeumo.
He arrives at Newcastle in the wake of Alexander Isak’s £125m move to Liverpool, and will take over the club’s iconic number nine shirt.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe added: “Yoane is a player who we have admired for some time and we’re delighted to have him on board. He brings proven Premier League quality, demonstrated not only by his goalscoring output but also the crucial work he does for the team.
“Yoane’s style of play will excite our supporters and complement our style of play – he has pace, power and an excellent work rate. He immediately makes us stronger.”
Wissa becomes Newcastle’s second striker signing of the summer following the £69m arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart — a club-record fee. He is the club’s sixth senior signing this window, joining Woltemade, Aaron Ramsdale, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw.
