Done Deal: Kyle Walker joins Burnley from Man City in £5m deal

Premier League new boys Burnley have completed the signing of veteran English defender Kyle Walker from Manchester City, Afrosport reports.

The 35-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Clarets in a deal worth up to £5 million plus bonuses.

Walker reunites with former teammate and Burnley manager Scott Parker, whom he shared the pitch with for two seasons during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he told the club website. “When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at.

“He’s done an amazing job here, guiding the club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we’re looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.

“Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.”

Walker, who spent the second part of last season on loan at AC Milan, departs City after eight years at the club, which he joined for an initial £45m from Spurs in 2017.

He enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Etihad Stadium, winning 17 titles, including six Premier League titles and two FA Cups, as well as a Treble in 2023.

Walker becomes Burnley’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrival of defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Quilindschy Hartman, goalkeeper Max Weiss and French winger Loum Tchaouna.

The Clarets, relegated after the 2023-24 season, earned immediate promotion back to the Premier League following a second-place finish in the Championship.

Parker’s side will begin their 2056-26 campaign with a trip to his former club Tottenham on Saturday, 16 July.
