Liverpool have completed the signing of Sweden forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British-record transfer fee of £125 million, Afrosport reports.
The 25-year-old underwent a medical on Merseyside on Monday before putting pen to paper on a six-year deal that keeps him at Anfield until 2031, concluding one of the summer’s most drawn-out transfer sagas.
Isak had long set his sights on a move to Liverpool, even missing Newcastle’s pre-season preparations and training away from the team after their return. He accused the club of “broken promises” and said his relationship with them “cannot continue” after they rejected an initial £110m bid from the Reds.
“It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for,” Isak told the club website. “It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a then club-record fee of £63m and quickly became the Magpies’ talisman. He scored 62 goals in 109 appearances across all competitions, including 27 last season.
In the Premier League, he struck 54 goals in 86 games, earning a reputation as one of the division’s most clinical strikers. The Sweden international also played a key role in helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League twice and famously scored in their 2-1 League Cup final victory over Liverpool in March — a result that ended the Magpies’ 56-year trophy drought and 70-year wait for a major domestic title.
Speaking about his ambitions at Anfield, Isak added: “I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well.
“I want to create history. I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me. This is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.”
Isak will wear the iconic number nine shirt at Liverpool and becomes the ninth addition of the summer for Arne Slot’s side, joining Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike.
His signing means Liverpool have twice broken their own transfer record this window, following the £116m deal for Wirtz. It also surpasses the £115m Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023.
Isak is expected to join up with Sweden ahead of this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo. His potential Liverpool debut could come on 14 September away at Burnley, when club football resumes after the international break.
