DR Congo international Arthur Masuaku has completed a move to Premier League side Sunderland on a free transfer, Afrosport reports.
The 31-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Wearside club until 2027, marking his return to the Premier League after a three-year absence.
Masuaku becomes Sunderland’s 10th summer signing as the Black Cats aim for a strong campaign in their first top-flight season in eight years. His arrival follows the signings of Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs, and Marc Guiu.
“I’m excited to be here and I’m also really happy to be back in the Premier League,” the left-back said. “It’s clear that Sunderland is a top club and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
“I had three good years in Turkey, and now I have this exciting new challenge in front of me. I want to bring a winning mentality and joy to the fans, and I’m excited to get started.”
The left-back previously spent six seasons in the Premier League with West Ham United, joining from Olympiacos in a £6.2 million deal. He made 128 appearances for the Hammers, scoring twice and providing 10 assists, including playing 105 times in the English top division.

Masuaku moved to Besiktas on a season-long loan ahead of the 2022-23 season before making the switch permanent in April 2023. During his time in Turkey, he won the Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup, registering three goals and 18 assists in 108 matches across all competitions.
Born in France, Masuaku chose to represent DR Congo and made his international debut in October 2018. He has since earned 36 caps and scored three goals, represented the Leopards at the 2019 and 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
He could make his Sunderland debut on Saturday, 16 August, when Regis Le Bris’ men host his former club West Ham in their opening match of the season.
