Done Deal: Everton sign Grealish on loan from Man City

England winger Jack Grealish has completed a season-long loan move to Everton from Manchester City until June 2026, Afrosport reports.

The Toffees will reportedly cover his entire annual salary, with the deal including an option to buy worth £50 million.

Grealish becomes the sixth summer signing for David Moyes’ side, joining Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall.

He told the club website: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton – It’s massive for me, honestly. This is a great club, with great fans.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go. On social media, I’ve been flooded with messages from Everton supporters, so there’s that side of it as well and that’s another reason why I chose Everton.

“I want to say thank you to the fans for all of the messages I’ve had already. Thank you for all of the love and support. I hope I can repay you now and I’m sure I will.”

The 29-year-old joined City in a blockbuster £100m move from Aston Villa in 2021 — a British record transfer at the time — and has failed to live up to the price tag, scoring 17 goals and providing 23 assists in 157 appearances in all competitions.

However, his playing time diminished last season, making only seven starts in 20 Premier League outings and netting just once. He was eventually deemed surplus to requirement at City and was excluded from Pep Guardiola’s squad for the Club World Cup in the United States.

Nonetheless, he has won a total of seven titles in the blue half of Manchester, including a historic treble in 2023.

Grealish made his international debut for England in September 2020 and has since earned 39 caps, scoring four goals and representing the Three Lions at Euro 2020 and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He will wear the number 18 jersey during his time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

“There is a reason for [choosing number 18],” he stated. “There were other numbers but my two favourite English players ever are Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne and I know they both wore number 18 here.

“So, as soon as I knew this deal was close, I had a look and number 18 was free, so that was perfect for me and it was the only number I was going to take from that point.

“I spoke to Wayne [Rooney] before I came here and I mentioned that to him – about the number 18 – so I hope he’s happy as well!”

The former Villa man is hoping to revive his career under Moyes at Everton, with the hopes of earning a spot in England’s squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.

He could make his Everton debut next Monday when they take on Leeds United at Elland Road in their season opener.
