Chelsea boss Maresca hit with touchline ban after late Liverpool drama

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has received a one-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine after being sent off during the dramatic win over Liverpool in the Premier League, Afrosport reports.

The Italian was shown a red card by referee Anthony Taylor after receiving a second yellow for leaving his technical area to celebrate Estevao Willian’s 95th-minute winner against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on 4 October.

According to the Football Association, Maresca “acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour,” leading to his dismissal in stoppage time.

The Chelsea boss, who received a first yellow card for dissent during the game, admitted the charge and accepted the standard punishment.

It means Maresca will not be on the touchline when the Blues visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with assistant coach Willy Caballero set to take charge.

This will be Maresca’s second touchline ban since becoming a Premier League manager in June 2024.

This marks Maresca’s second touchline suspension since becoming a Premier League manager, following a similar ban in April 2025 for celebrating Pedro Neto’s late winner against Fulham.
