CHAN 2024: Uganda ease past Niger to go top of Group C

Co-hosts of the 2024 African Nations Championship, Uganda, made it back-to-back wins as they defeated Niger 2-0 in Kampala on Monday to go top of Group C, Afrosport reports.

The Cranes recored a 3-0 win over Guinea in their previous game after losing by the same scoreline to Algeria in their group opener.

They were presented with an opportunity from the penalty spot against the Nigeriens in the 25th minute and though Allan Okello saw his effort saved by Niger goalkeeper Mahamadou Djibo, he was able to convert from the rebound.

The Vipers forward then turned provider for the second goal scored by Joel Sserunjogi in the 56th minute.

Uganda are top of Group C with six points, two points clear of South Africa, who defeated Guinea 2-1 in the other group game.


Both teams will face off in the final group game next Monday to determine who claims top spot and the other places to move into the quarter-finals.
