Two-time African Nations Championship winners Morocco began their quest for a record third title in the 2024 edition with an opening 2-0 Group A win over Angola in Nairobi on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The Atlas Lions won back-to-back CHAN titles in 2018 and 2020 but did not participate in the previous edition in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, the Sable Antelopes were making their fifth CHAN outing, failing to get past the group stage twice, including the previous edition in Cameroon. Their best record however remains finishing as runners-up in the 2011 edition in Sudan, losing to Tunisia in the final.
The Moroccans started as the more dominant side and were in front after 29 minutes thanks to RS Berkane midfielder Imad Riahi.
The North African giants remained in control for the rest of the match and added a second when Angolan defender Quinto put the ball into his own net.
FULL TIME!
