CHAN 2024: Morocco become first team to land ahead of tournament

Morocco have become the first to arrive for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), taking place in the East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, Afrosport reports.

The two-time champions landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the Kenyan capital city of Nairobi in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Atlas Lions have been paired in Group A with DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia and will begin their campaign against the Angolans at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday.

Speaking upon their arrival, defender Marouane Louadni, who plies his trade for AS FAR, said: “We are excited to be here and ready for CHAN. I already love Nairobi; the weather is great, and we are looking forward to a successful tournament.”

Morocco will be hoping to win CHAN for the third time after winning it on home soil in 2018 and Cameroon in 2021.

A third title will make them the outright most successful team in the tournament, with DR Congo being the only other team to win it twice.
