Co-hosts of the 2024 African Nations Championship, Tanzania, commenced the tournament with a 2-0 Group B win over Burkina Faso in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The Taifa Stars were making only their third CHAN appearance and first since the 2020 edition in Cameroon while it was a fourth appearance for the Stallions and first also since the 2020 edition.
Both sides have never gone past the group stage and it was the Tanzanians who were keen to make a statement as co-hosts in front of home support as Abdul Hamisi Suleiman put them in front from the penalty spot in added time of the first half.
The East African nation doubled their lead in the 71st minute after Mudathir Yahya’s cross found Mohamed Hussein who headed into an empty net.
FULL TIME!
A solid statement from Tanzania to kick things off at the opener. 🇹🇿
