Algeria kicked off their 2024 African Nations Championship campaign on a high with a 3-0 Group C win over co-hosts Uganda in Kampala on Monday, Afrosport reports.
The Desert Foxes were making only their third CHAN appearance and were runners-up in the previous edition on home soil when they lost to Senegal in the final.
The Cranes meanwhile have made most CHAN appearances, missing only the maiden edition in Ivory Coast in 2009. They have however failed to go past the group stage on each occasion.
Ayoub Ghezala gave the Algerians the lead against the Ugandans in the 36th minute and was followed by second half strikes from Abderrahmane Bentahar and substitute Soufiane Bayazid in the 76th and 79th minute respectively.

The victory gives Algeria the early lead on goal difference over Guinea who defeated Niger 1-0 in the earlier Group B game also in Kampala.
The North African giants will next take on South Africa on Friday.
