Callum Wilson has confirmed he has left Newcastle United after failing to agree a new deal with the club, Afrosport reports.
The England forward’s contract expired at the end of June, making him a free agent and bringing to an end his five-year association with the Magpies.
Wilson made 130 appearances for the Tyneside outfit, scoring 49 goals and providing 11 assists, winning the EFL Cup. His time at St. James’ Park was however hampered by multiple injuries, which saw him out of action for a total of 677 days.
“It’s time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years in the Toon,” he said in an Instagram post.
“Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.
“I am so proud to have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and to have added a little more history to it. Scoring at the Gallowgate end really is as special as they say.
“All good things come to an end, but there’s no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my families hearts. Thank you for the memories.”
According to reports, Wilson is of interest to some Premier League clubs and also sides from Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.
