Victor Clement delivered a golden moment for Team Nigeria at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U18/U20 African Athletics Championships in Abeokuta, soaring to gold in the U-20 men’s High Jump with a Personal Best of 2.10m, Afrosport reports.
Inside the MKO Abiola Sports Arena on Friday night, Clement cleared the 2-metre mark for the first time. His previous best was 1.85m, achieved just a year ago.
In the men’s U20 400m final, Nigeria’s Ezekiel Eno Asuquo produced a lifetime performance to claim silver in 45.83s, a huge Personal Best. Botswana’s Justice Oratile edged him to gold in 45.58s, while Nigeria’s Victor Sampson clinched bronze in 45.87s. Just behind them, another Nigerian, Gafar Badmus, ran a brilliant PB of 45.95s.
Meanwhile, n the U20 women’s 400m, Toheebat Jimoh continued her rapid rise with a bronze medal performance, clocking a stunning 53.00s, another big Personal Best.
The Athletics Championships continue on Saturday with Javelin throw final for U18 Women, Shotput final for U18 Men, Pole Vault final for U18 Men and Long Jump final for U20 Women scheduled to take place.
The 4x100m Relay for U20 Men and Women, Medley Relay final for U18 Men and Women, and 500m Men final are also on the menu.
