Brighton boss Hurzeler unfazed by prospect of losing Baleba to Man United

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler says he is not bothered about the prospect of losing Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba amid heavy links to Manchester United, Afrosport reports.

The Red Devils have already purchased Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, but are still keen to improve the defensive midfield area, and Baleba has emerged as their top target.

The 22-year-old joined the Seagulls from Lille in 2023 and has made 77 competitive appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists, with reports suggesting Brighton are demanding over £100 million to let him leave the Amex Stadium.

“No chance. I don’t feel fear. I’m not afraid of anything because all we can do is be the best version of ourselves every day and work as hard as we can, Hurzeler said on the BBC Monday Night Club podcast when asked if he feared losing any of his players in the transfer window.

“All the other things we can’t influence, so we really have to focus on us. For sure, we can’t spend the money like the big teams, but one of our biggest values is togetherness.

“And if you stay together, if we try to push our limits and increase the boundaries, then I’m sure we can compete with the big teams.”

Brighton have already signed Charalampos Kostoulas, Maxim De Cuyper, Tom Watson, Diego Coppola, Do-young Yoon and Olivier Boscagli, while Joao Pedro, Simon Adingra, Pervis Estupinan, Valentin Barco, Evan Ferguson (loan), Kjell Scherpen and Odeluga Offiah have all departed the club.

They will begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign at home against Fulham on Saturday.
