Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will be out of action for up to six weeks after picking up a a leg injury, Afrosport reports.
The 28-year-old Netherlands international featured in Sunday’s 3-0 La Liga win over Levante, scoring the second goal of the game and his first of the season.
De Jong picked up the injury in training on Thursday and will now miss the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against either Paris Saint-Germain or Newcastle as well as La Liga fixtures against Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano.
He will also be absent from the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid as well as International duty with the Netherlands in friendlies against Norway and Ecuador next month.
“First-team player Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury to the distal biceps of his right leg during this morning’s training session,” read a Barcelona statement on X.
“Medical tests have confirmed that the expected recovery period will be approximately five to six weeks.”

Barca are one point ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table and will host Villarreal at Camp Nou on Saturday.
