Barcelona’s Gavi to miss up to five months after knee surgery

Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Gavi will be sidelined for up to five months after undergoing knee surgery to correct a meniscus injury that has troubled him for a long period of time, Afrosport reports.

The 21-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in November 2023 while on international duty with Spain, ruling him out of action for about 11 months.

The midfielder, however, returned last October but has has been out of action since the opening two La Liga matches of the 2025-26 season, following discomfort in the same knee.

The Spaniard, who has played a total of 66 minutes this season after coming off the bench in wins against Mallorca and Levante, underwent successful surgery on Tuesday.

“First team player Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months,” the club said in a statement on X.

Gavi Barcelona are already without midfielder Fermin Lopez, who picked up a muscle injury in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Getafe, ruling him out of action for three weeks. The Spanish champions are also without Marc-Andre ter Stegen and are sweating on the fitness of Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal.
