Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is training individually at his former club, Real Sociedad, amid increasing speculation surrounding his future at St James’ Park, Afrosport reports.
The Swedish forward is reportedly keen on a move away from the Magpies this summer, with Liverpool emerging as strong contenders for his signature despite the League Cup champions claiming he is not for sale.
Newcastle have stated that the 25-year-old is nursing a “minor thigh injury”, which has ruled him out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, where they have lost to Arsenal and K-League XI.
Despite his absence from team activities, reports indicate that the club is fully aware of his decision to use Sociedad’s facilities to recover from injury and stay in shape ahead of the new season.
Isak, who first joined Real Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, spent three years at the Spanish club before making a record-breaking £63 million transfer to Newcastle in August 2022.
Since arriving in the Premier League, he has netted 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, including an impressive 23-goal haul in 34 league games last term.
One of his standout moments came in March, when he scored in Newcastle’s 2–1 win over Liverpool in the League Cup final, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major trophy.
