Lookman: Gasperini clarifies criticism of Super Eagles forward

Atalanta captain Marten de Roon has assured Ademola Lookman that the door is always open for in the team if he decides to make a u-turn , Afrosport reports.

The reigning African Player of the Year has been frozen out of the first team after handing in a transfer request that failed to see him move on in the summer.

La Dea will face current European champions Paris Saint-Germain in their opening UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday in France, and will make do without Ederson, Gianluca Scamacca and Mitchel Bakker, who are all injured.

Lookman was registered for the Champions League but is not part of the team in Paris, with head coach Ivan Juric stating he will not beg the Nigerian to make his way back into the squad.

De Roon was asked if he hasd spoken to Lookman about the situation to which the Dutch defensive midfielder replied: “I didn’t disturb him. I don’t want to use up too much energy over this situation.

“We are concentrated on the squad and the players who are here. We are here and the door is always open.”

Atalanta have played four games in the Serie A without Lookman this season, drawing 1-1 with newly-promoted Pisa and also Parma before beating Lecce 4-1 last time out.
