Reigning African Table Tennis champion, Aruna Quadri has been ruled out of the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos due to injury.
Aruna’s withdrawal was confirmed by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the event, Wahid Enitan Oshodi.
Oshodi although acknowledged that the 2017 Polish Open champion will be greatly missed, particularly by the Lagos fans, but assured that other top world stars will bring in their A-game and make the tournament memorable.
On what led to Aruna’s withdrawal, Oshodi said: “I think due to his very powerful and unique style, the fall out from that is occasional muscle strains, so his physios have advised him to rest so he can recover on time because the most important tournament for Aruna this year is the Olympics, and we are four or five weeks away from that.
“Last year he couldn’t make it because of club commitment, this year an injury and its really sad for him.”
Aruna got to the quarter final of the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil, he lost to then world number one Ma Long of China who went on to win the Men Singles gold medal after defeating compatriot Zhang Jike in the final.
