Amusan to battle Russell, Camacho-Quinn in stacked line-up in Eugene

Impressive Amusan wins 100mH event at Ostrava Golden Spike meet

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will headline a star-studded line-up in the women’s 100-metre hurdles event at the Diamond League in Eugene, Afrosport reports.

World record-holder Amusan will be joined by reigning Olympic champion and American record-holder Masai Russell and Diamond League champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn at the 50th edition of the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on Saturday, 5 July.

Amusan, who set the world record at Eugene’s Hayward Field during the 2022 World Athletics Championships, currently occupies the second spot in the 2025 Diamond League standings behind leader Grace Stark.

The 28-year-old Nigerian, with a personal best record of 12.12 seconds, is a three-time Diamond League champion, having won the title from 2021 to 2023.

She recently won the 100m hurdles event at the Golden Spike Meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and ran her second-fastest time ever to finish second at the Paris Diamond League.

Amusan also boasts a great outing at Hayward Field, as three of her ten fastest times have come in Eugene.

Meanwhile, Russell, who, like Camacho-Quinn, is yet to register any points in the Diamond League this season, enters the race as a clear favourite.

The 25-year-old American stunned the floor at the Paris 2024 Olympics last August, running a time of 12.33s at the Stade de France to win gold.

She ran the second fastest time in history in May when she clocked 12.17s at the Grand Slam Track meeting in Miami but is still in search of her first Diamond League triumph.

However, two-time Olympic medallist Camacho-Quinn, a bronze medal winner from Paris, is currently ranked as the top athlete in women’s 100m hurdles.

The Puerto Rican national record holder, who has 14 Diamond League wins to her name since 2019, won her first Diamond League title last year in Brussels, Belgium, and holds two World Athletics Championships medals.

The rest of the line-up has yet to be announced, but the leading trio will definitely soak up all the headlines ahead of the Diamond League Final in Zurich as well as the World Championships later this year in Tokyo.
