Real Madrid on Wednesday confirmed that defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a hamstring injury, Afrosport reports.
The fullback was forced off early during their Champions League win over Marseille on Tuesday. He was replaced by club captain Dani Carvajal just five minutes into the contest at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Tests carried out on Alexander-Arnold has confirmed the nature of the injury, and Madrid stated that he has sustained a “muscle injury” in his left leg.
A statement from the club read: “Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Further updates will follow.”
Reports suggest the 26-year-old could be sidelined for at least a month, with his absence potentially rising to six weeks.
Alexander-Arnold departed Liverpool for Madrid on 1 June and featured in five games at the Club World Cup this summer. He has also made five appearances in all competitions for the club since the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
The England international is expected to miss some big games for the Spanish giants: the Madrid derby against Atletico on 27 September, Juventus’ visit in the Champions League on 22 October, as well as the El Clasico four days later.
With Madrid also set to face Liverpool on 4 November, Alexander-Arnold faces a race against time to be fit for his first return to Anfield.
He was also omitted from the England squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers by head coach Thomas Tuchel, and could miss next month’s games against Wales and Latvia.
