Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Liverpool’s League Cup final against Newcastle United this Sunday due to an ankle injury, Afrosport reports.
Alexander-Arnold sustained the injury in the second half of Liverpool’s Champions League round of 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old, who will spend some time on the sidelines, was forced off in the 73rd minute and was replaced by Jarell Quansah with the Reds knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by PSG.
“So, Trent is not available. He will not be there at the final,” said Arne Slot at his pre-match conference on Friday. “But he is still to be assessed for how long it’s going to take but we do expect him back in the end of the season.
Liverpool, hoping to retain the League Cup, will face Newcastle at Wembley without a recognised right-back, with Alexander-Arnold’s usual replacements Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley also out injured.
“I think maybe even Curtis [Jones] can play there. And you can also play as a left-footed defender on the right side, which is what Newcastle do at the moment but on the opposite [side].

The Liverpool Academy graduate was also left out of the England squad released by Thomas Tuchel on Friday ahead of this month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
Liverpool remain atop the Premier League standings with 70 points, 15 points clear of Arsenal in second place, and will be hoping to win the first title of Slot’s era.
