Gundogan joins Galatasaray on free transfer from Manchester City

Manuel Akanji is keen to have UEFA Champions League success with Inter Milan after completing a transfer from Premier League giants Manchester City, Afrosport reports.

The 30-year-old Swiss defender of Nigerian heritage joined the Nerazzurri on loan for the 2025-26 season with the obligation to buy him for €15 million if Inter win the Serie A.

Akanji joined City in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund and has made 136 appearances, scoring five goals, providing three assists and winning seven titles, including the historic treble in 2023 which they defeated Inter in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul.

Akanji is now hoping to taste European success with Christian Chivu’s side.

“For me, Inter is one of the biggest clubs in Italy, and in the World, as they’ve proven in the past few years. It was an easy choice to come here,” he told the club website.

“Inter have shown that they can reach important finals, I hope we will be able to reach a final again, and win it this time. We already met in a final, two years ago, and this time I hope that Inter wins.”

Akanji is also keen to experience playing in the Serie A having had a taste of the German Bundesliga and English Premier League already.

“It will be different to the Premier League, and the Bundesliga was different. I have watched many Serie A games, I know the teams in the league,” he added.

“I really like this league, it’s another reason why I’m here, I cannot wait to meet the manager, and to learn the way that we play: I cannot wait.”

Akanji could make his Inter debut in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus after the international break on September 13.
