Team Nigeria’s medal streak at the maiden African School Games in Algeria continued on Friday as cyclist Godwin Osaretin clinched gold in the women’s road race event, Afrosport reports.
Osaretin completed the grueling race in a remarkable time of one hour, 37 minutes, and two seconds, narrowly beating Algeria’s Chemouni Saoussan, who finished just four seconds behind at 1:37:06 to win Nigeria’s third gold medal of the Games.
Team Nigeria has now amassed a total of 11 medals: three gold, four silver, and four bronze, showcasing the strength and determination of its young athletes on the continental stage.
On Thursday, Nigeria’s Precious Adekunle claimed gold in the badminton girls singles category, while Edun David also delivered gold in the boys singles.
The Games, hosted for the first time on African soil, has seen spirited performances from young athletes representing countries across the continent.
