The Super Eagles began life in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with an emphatic 3-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday, while Rwanda were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Libya last Wednesday.
With Nigeria atop the Group D standings with three points, the three-time African champions will be hoping to make it two wins in as many games as they will lock horns with Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles, led by interim manager Augustine Eguavoen, will be heading into their sixth meeting against the Amavubi, who are ranked 39th in Africa, and like Benin Republic, are also drawn in their group in the African Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Group D matchday two encounter between Rwanda and Nigeria in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, September 10 at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali.

The Super Eagles and The Amavubi of Rwanda have only faced each other on a handful of occasions with the former currently unbeaten in this fixture.
Of their five previous meetings, Nigeria have recorded two wins, three draws and have yet to suffer a defeat, while Rwanda have been on the end of two defeats and three draws.
Along with their victory over Benin’s Cheetahs, the Super Eagles are on a run of seven wins, two draws, and four losses in their last 13 matches.
Meanwhile, in their last 11 games, Rwanda have recorded three wins, three losses, and five draws. In their recent matches against West African oppositions—Benin and Senegal—they have recorded two draws and two losses.
Players to Watch Out For
Nigeria
Victor Osimhen: Despite an injury riddled 2023–24 campaign with Napoli, the Nigerian striker finished the season with 17 goals and four assists in 32 matches.
The 25-year-old, who just secured a move to Turkish side Galatasaray, is now Nigeria’s outright third all-time leading scorer with 22 goals in 36 matches. The Nigerian has a brilliant record in AFCON qualifiers with 16 goals and 8 assists in 13 matches.
Ademola Lookman: He enjoyed a fruitful 2023–24 campaign with his Italian club Atalanta, finishing the season with 17 goals and 10 assists in 47 matches.
The 26-year-old, who was recently nominated for the Ballon d’Or, was Nigeria’s joint top scorer at the AFCON with three goals, and he has eight goals and four assists in 23 matches for the Super Eagles and will be looking to add to the brace he scored against Benin Republic.
William Troost-Ekong: One of Nigeria’s best performers at the AFCON, Troost-Ekong, who was named the MVP at the tournament in Ivory Coast, made a return to the team after a knee injury. The Al-Kholood defender has made 72 appearances for Nigeria, scoring seven goals, and his return to the Super Eagles defence marked a win and a first clean sheet in seven matches for the side.
Rwanda
Innocent Nshuti: The 26-year-old forward, who plays for One Knoxville SC in the United States is one of the leading players in the Rwandan national team.
Since he made his debut in 2021, Nshuti has scored two goals in 11 matches for Amavubi. He scored the equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Libya in their opening match.
Jojea Kwizera: At 25-year-old, Kwizera, who plays for Rhode Island FC in the United States, has scored one goal in three matches since he made his debut for Rwanda against Benin Republic in June.
