AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Iheanacho talks about his favorite position ahead of Rwanda tie

Iheanacho Super Eagles

Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho says he prefers playing as a No.10 as the Super Eagles prepare to face Rwanda in their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Monday, Afrosport reports.

The former Manchester City player was deployed as a striker against Benin in the Super Eagles which ended in a 1-1 draw but he expressed his love for the number 10 position.

The 28-year-old also stated that he would be glad to fill in the no.10 position against the Amavubi.

“Managers might think differently; wherever they put me I play. I’m serving the country, I’m playing. Anywhere I find myself I just go there and do my job,” he said on the Victor Modo YouTube channel.

“For me personally, in the national team I would like to be a number 10, obviously a proper number 10, so it depends on the formation any manager is playing, you have to adapt to it as a football player. “
“I’m a proper number 10 in the national team, that’s my best position in the national team. In the club, it’s different, I’m a number 9 but sometimes I play number 10.”

Iheanacho has had a rather season so far with new club Sevilla, with no goal or assist in seven La Liga games. He however has two goals from a 3-0 Copa del Rey first-round win over Las Rozas CF.
