Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has responded to the misunderstanding surrounding his coaching involvement with the national team which is considered to be four stints, Afrosport reports.

His first spell as Super Eagles coach was between 2006 and 2007, followed by a short-term spells in 2010, 2022 and his present role since last month.

While agreeing that this is the fourth time he will be in the Super Eagles dugout, Eguavoen, in an interview with Brila FM, stated it was not technically the case owing to how short each stint was, including his spell which is expected to end at the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.

“The general question to the country , will they be patient with me? Because people now say this is Eguavoen’s fourth stint as the Super Eagles coach, well agreed,” he said.

“And every other time, it was either two months, two games or three. Then in Cameroon AFCON it was from December to March also covering the World Cup. Then people say fourth stint of Eguavoen coaching, it is not 100% correct.

“How can people just say Eguavoen’s fourth stint with the Super Eagles, have I ever coached the team for straight two years?

“All those saying fourth stints, should sit down and reflect, the only time I did six months was in 2006. Let us be objective In our criticizing.”

The 59-year-old will be in the dugout when the Super Eagles take on Libya on October 11th and 15th.
