Sunderland are closing in on a deal to sign Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra from newly-promoted Premier League club Sunderland, Afrosport reports.
According to multiple reports, the Black Cats have reached an agreement with the Seagulls to sign Adingra for £20.5 million, inclusive of bonuses.
Personal terms have already been agreed between Sunderland and the 23-year-old, with the deal subject to a medical.
The Black Cats tried to get Adingra back in January as part of a swap deal involving Tom Watson. The swap however failed to materialise with Brighton signing Watson for £10 million instead.
Adingra joined Brighton from FC Nordsjaelland in 2022 and has played 71 times for the south coast outfit, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. He also spent time on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium during the 2022-23 season, scoring 15 goals and providing 14 assists in 51 games.
He was part of the successful Ivory Coast side that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil in February 2024.
Adingra will become Sunderland’s latest African arrival following the signing of Moroccan Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge, DR Congo’s Noah Sadiki from Union Saint-Gilloise, Senegal’s Habib Diarra from Strasbourg and Mozambique’s Reinildo Mandava on a free transfer.
