Mikel Arteta has described Bukayo Saka making his 200th Premier League appearance as “a joy to witness”, Afrosport reports.
The 24-year-old England winger of Nigerian heritage reached the milestone in Saturday’s 2-0 win over West Ham United, netting the second goal from the penalty spot.
Saka has been an integral part of Arsenal’s squad since Arteta took charge in December 2019 and is thrilled with how the academy graduate has evolved over the years.
“Just a joy to witness his evolution as a player, the way he has matured, where he is in his personal life as well, how his role has evolved within the team, within the club as well and the national team,” the Spaniard said.
“I think it’s tremendous what he’s doing, to hit the numbers that he’s hitting at his age and the impact that he has in the team. It’s something very, very privileged to witness and hopefully many more to come.”
Meanwhile, Saka reacting to his latest Arsenal milestone, said: “There’s a lot to celebrate – a beautiful win, another goal and 200 [Premier League] appearances as well. So, happy days.
“I’m very proud, I don’t take these moments for granted, especially the last few months when I’ve had to miss games and watch from the stands as I’ve been injured. I’m going to enjoy it tonight and come back after the break ready to go again.
“I just want to give my best, give my best for my teammates and try and push this club to win.”
