Gusto sees red as 10-man Chelsea cruise past Forest at City Ground

Chelsea’s disciplinary troubles resurfaced despite a solid 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The Blues finished with ten men after Malo Gusto was sent off late on for a challenge on Nico Williams — their fifth red card in six matches and fourth in successive Premier League games.

Forest started brightly, showing intent and energy in the opening exchanges but Nigerian stiker Taiwo Awoniyi, starting his first game since an abdominal surgery missed the chance to put them in front. Elliot Anderson hesitated when well placed, while Morgan Gibbs-White went close with a long-range effort that skimmed past the top corner.

Chelsea, meanwhile, should have gone ahead before the break, but Andrey Santos fired narrowly wide from a Joao Pedro pass.

Manager Enzo Maresca, who was serving a one-match touchline ban. made calls for key changes at half-time, with assistant Willy Caballero bringing on Moises Caicedo, Marc Guiu, and Jamie Gittens to inject fresh energy.

The breakthrough arrived four minutes into the second half when 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong rose highest to head in Pedro Neto’s cross. Moments later, Neto doubled the lead himself with a superb free-kick past Matz Sels.

Forest hit the post through substitute Igor Jesus, but Chelsea sealed the win in the 84th minute as captain Reece James smashed home from a corner after a goalmouth scramble.

Despite Gusto’s late dismissal, the result never looked in doubt. The win lifts Chelsea to fourth in the Premier League table, marking their second set of back-to-back victories this season.

Forest, meanwhile, remain 17th and winless in eight matches under Ange Postecoglou, losing their last four in all competitions.
