Liverpool have rejected a £150 million offer for Mohamed Salah from Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
The Egypt international has been the subject of interest of clubs from the Gulf nation this summer with reports suggesting a verbal offer was made on Friday.
The Reds have however turned down the juicy offer and consider the matter closed as they insist the forward is not for sale.
Manager Jurgen Klopp once again called on European football governing body UEFA to keep an eye on the spending power of the Saudi Pro League whose transfer deadline runs until September 20, giving Saudi clubs ample time to still sign top players after the September 1 European deadline.
“I don’t know how sustainable it is, how long it will stay like that. I don’t know all these kind of things. But I think the next two weeks will show how much of a challenge it is. Because whatever happens there, obviously, nobody can react anymore (if they lose players),” Klopp said.
“That is something I think, UEFA or whoever should have an eye on to solve that because we all have to protect the game and we want. And it’s not a league or whatever. It’s the game. And obviously, I love all my players who play now in Saudi Arabia. Usually, I would watch them, but I didn’t see anything yet.
“So maybe you can. I don’t know exactly where, but it’s not like that that it distracts me now from my watching habits. But we have to make sure that these European leagues and his UEFA boss that they stay as strong as they are.”
Liverpool will take on high-flying Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday before going on the two-week international break.
Earlier on Friday, they were also paired in Group E of the UEFA Europa League where they will face LASK Linz, Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse.
