Bayern Munich boss Tuchel apologies to Kane after heavy DFB Super Cup loss

La Liga: Nigeria’s Sadiq returns to competitive action for Real Sociedad

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has apologised to Harry Kane after the Bavarian giants lost 3-0 to RB Leipzig in the DFB Super Cup at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Kane put pen to paper on a four-year deal worth over €100 million in the Bavarian capital which brought an end to his 19-year association with Tottenham Hotspur where he is the club’s all-time top scorer.

The England all-time top scorer started from the bench in the DFB Super Cup but his introduction in the second half for 18-year-old French forward Mathys Tel did nothing as Bayern were already 2-0 down through goals from Dani Olmo. It became 3-0 five minutes after Kane’s introduction in the 63rd minute with Olmo completing a hat-trick.

Tuchel stated he did not expect much from Kane but believes he will become an integral part of the team as the season progresses.

“We don’t expect him to be the superhero,” Tuchel said after the game. “We just expect him to be who he is. A top guy, a top goalscorer and a top personality.

“I feel sorry for him. We did not create. We did not keep the momentum going. We did not create enough for him.

“He will help us a lot. We need exactly his attitude. To help us step out of the circle of repetitive performances like this.”

Bayern are the reigning Bundesliga champions and officially open the 2023-24 campaign away at 2004 champions Werder Bremen on Friday.
