The undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will no longer take place over failure to reach a conclusion by both parties.
The fight was initially scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in London on April 29.
However, Uysk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk confirmed on Wednesday that they have pulled the plug on the bout as both parties failed to come to an agreement on the terms critical to the fight, despite reports the Ukrainian already accepted a 70-30 split in favour of Fury.
Usyk and his camp requested for a rematch clause to be added to the contract, similar to what British-Nigerian fighter Anthony Joshua did when they faced off in 2021. On the contrary, Fury, who is the reigning WBC (World Boxing Council) champion, is against an immediate rematch clause.
The cancelled heavyweight title showdown leaves Usyk, who holds the unified WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles, with no other choice than to face his WBA mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois for his title defence next.
The Fury vs Usyk fight would have been one of the most significant contests in boxing in recent times as there has not been an undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield – and never been one in the four-belt era.
