2026WCQ: South Africa legend Bartlett praises Osimhen’s qualities

AFCON 2025 qualifiers: Super Eagles seal qualification as Osimhen secures point against Benin

Former South Africa striker Shaun Bartlett spoke highly of Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen after his brace in the 2-0 win over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Afrosport reports.

The Galatasaray forward was making his first appearance in the qualifiers after missing the previous four outings due to inquiry.

Osimhen was clearly eager to make a statement which he did, with his two goals taking him to 25 international goals and second on the all-time top scorers list above the legendary Segun Odegbami.

Bartlett, speaking while on punditry duty with Supersport, praised the 2023 African Player of the Year for his goalscoring prowess and his movement in the box.

“He’s not about flair. For him, it’s about stats. It’s about scoring goals, being in the right position, and using your physicality,” he said.

“He can do it with his left foot and right, we’ve seen him score headers as well and I think that’s what it’s all about.

“You don’t need to have flair, just finish. His price can go up by twenty million just for that. No sugar, no spice, just finish

“The other thing is his movement in the box. It’s just like he’s in the kitchen. His movement is very intelligent. How to move, the anticipation and the arrival in the box.”

Osimhen has scored 20 goals in 22 games for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig which sees him at the top of the scorers chart.
