2026WCQ: Benin and Zimbabwe share spoils in Durban, Mali beat Comoros

Benin missed the chance to go three points clear at the top of Group C in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after playing a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe in Durban on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

The Cheetahs were 2-0 up after 35 minutes with Steve Mounie and Doukou Dodo finding the back of the net.

Benin were however unable to hold on to their lead as Zimbabwe captain and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi pulled one back for the Warriors in the 44th minute before veteran Knowledge Musona equalised in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile, Mali moved within two points of Group I leaders Madagascar after recording an emphatic 3-0 win over Comoros, Dorgeles Nene and Kamory Doumbia’s doing the job.

Sierra Leone moved within two points of Group A leaders Egypt after recording a 3-1 win over Guinea-Bissau.

Elsewhere in Group F, Kenya came from two goals down to force a 3-3 draw with the Gambia in Benni McCarthy’s first game as Harambee Stars head coach, while Los Angeles FC star Denis Bouanga scored twice in Gabon’s 3-0 win over Seychelles in Group F

In Group G, Mozambique got the better of Uganda in a 3-1 win while in Group D, Cape Verde overcame Mauritius 1-0 and Libya and Angola played 1-1 in Tripoli.


In Group H, Namibia recorded a narrow 1-0 win away at Malawi.
