The Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa, will host the 2026 World Cup qualifying clash between Lesotho and Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Afrosport reports.
The matchday nine encounter was initially billed for the Toyota Stadium In Bloemfontein — same ground where Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana earlier this month.
The change follows criticism from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about the poor condition of the Toyota Stadium turf, which resulted in injuries to three Super Eagles players in their encounter against South Africa.
The tie between Lesotho’s Crocodiles and the Super Eagles is scheduled for 10 October, marking Nigeria’s final away game in the qualifiers. The three-time African champions will then return to Uyo to face Benin Republic four days later.
Nigeria, third in Group C, are now just three points behind new group leaders Benin following FIFA’s ruling in the case between Lesotho and South Africa.
Eric Chelle’s men must beat both Lesotho and Benin in their final games to sustain their hopes of reaching next summer’s World Cup in North America.
